What winter does to skin
Low humidity and wind increase transepidermal water loss (TEWL), leaving the barrier rough and tight. Shea’s emollients fill in rough spots, while its occlusive properties help lock in water after cleansing.
What you’ll need (Sheri’s picks)
– Comfort Soap (gentle cleanse that respects the barrier)
– Rich Whipped Shea (unscented or calming blend)
– Optional: Bedtime Body Spray, cotton socks/gloves, soft washcloth
The Night Routine (3 steps)
1) Short, warm shower → cleanse with Comfort Soap.
2) Damp-skin shea → apply within 2 minutes over arms, legs, torso.
3) Targeted overnight repair → hands, feet, lips/corners, with gloves/socks if desired.
Morning Maintenance (1–2 minutes)
- Quick lukewarm rinse or water-only refresh.
- Micro-dose shea on any tight spots; buff excess with a dry washcloth.
- Optional light body spray.
Weekly Winter Schedule
- Daily: Damp-skin shea after cleansing.
- 2–3x/week: Overnight hands/feet occlusion.
- As needed: 60-second massage to help the routine “stick.”
Shower & Home Environment Tweaks
- Keep showers <10 minutes and comfortably warm.
- Close the bathroom door while you apply shea to keep steam in.
- If air is very dry, use a humidifier or place water near heat sources.
Rapid Rescue: 3 Micro-Rituals
- Desk Fix: press a pinhead of shea into knuckles and cuticles.
- Heel Smooth: warm a pea-size between palms and press into heels.
- Scarf Rub: a whisper of shea along the neck to prevent chafing.
Troubleshooting
- Still flaky? Add more water, then a thinner layer of shea.
- Greasy feel? Use less, and buff with a dry cloth.
- Itchy after shower? Lower water temp; apply shea on very damp skin.
Safety & Patch Testing
- Test new essential-oil blends first; avoid eyes and broken skin.
- Citrus-heavy blends are best at night or under clothing.
- If irritation occurs, stop using and rinse.
